BMF one of first retailers to receive approved accreditation from HETAS

BMF has become one of the first to sign up to a new Approved Retailer scheme which ensures customers receive a quality service when looking to purchase a solid fuel stove.

BMF has received the Approved Retailer certification from HETAS, the official government-backed body which approves biomass and solid fuel domestic heating appliances, fuels and services.

To qualify for the Approved Retailer status, staff must be trained by HETAS so they can advise on choosing an appropriate installation for a home, from the point of view of ensuring its safety, that it provides the correct level of output and complies with any necessary regulations. 

As well as providing one-on-one advice the retailer must also have literature available to take away covering relevant topics such as building regulations, smoke control areas, how to achieve efficient burning, how to maintain an appliance, safety, chimney sweeping and integration with other technologies. All stoves within a showroom must also have details on display including efficiency, fuel types, HETAS approved status and ‘smoke controlled area’ exemption status.

But people often don’t realise all the implications of installing a wood or multi-fuel burner. It’s vital they are fitted by an expert – but also that the product chosen is appropriate for the individual house. From building regulations to the safety aspect of carbon monoxide, it’s something you don’t want to ignore. That’s why we are delighted that HETAS has introduced this new Approved Retailer accreditation, so consumers can feel confident they are buying from someone with the appropriate training who can offer genuine advice and insight.”
